May is National Foster Care Month!

There are 424,000 American youth in foster care. No matter how much time you have to give, you can do something positive that will "change a lifetime" for a young person in foster care. For more information on how you can help, please visit www.fostercaremonth.org today.

WAYS YOU CAN HELP

Community volunteering: a win-win for seniors

Retired and looking for new ways to give meaning and purpose to your life? We all know that volunteering helps others. But did you know that when you volunteer, you are also helping yourself?

Studies have shown that just two hours of volunteering a week can benefit your body and mind. Seniors who volunteer tend to feel more productive than those who don't. They are also less likely to be depressed.

A win-win situation

Volunteer work can give you a personal sense of accomplishment. Donating your time is a way to:

  • Feel valued, by sharing your knowledge and skills
  • Contribute to society
  • Increase your physical activity
  • Keep your mind sharp
  • Help you feel optimistic about the future
  • Have meaningful interaction with others

One study showed that older volunteers had fewer medical problems than the senior population in general. Some studies even suggest that volunteering is linked to lower rates of heart disease and maybe a longer life span.

Donate! What you no longer have a use for, may be mission critical at Eagle Ridge Institute!  All donations are tax deductible!
