        Strategic Prevention Framework

        The Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) works to bring multiple funding streams from multiple sources to create a community-based approach to substance abuse and negative youth behavior prevention that cuts across existing programs and systems.

        SPF implements a five-step process known to promote youth development, reduce risk-taking behaviors, build assets and resilience and prevent problem behaviors across the lifespan.

        The SPF implements prevention by:

        Profiling needs and response capacity;
        Mobilizing and building needed capacity;
        Developing a prevention plan;
        Implementing programs, policies and practices (strategies) based on what is known to be effective;
        Evaluating program effectiveness;

          sustaining what has worked well.

        This five-step process provides an effective prevention framework that can be embraced by grass root community members, multiple agencies and levels of government to achieve a common goal.
