![]() LOCAL PEOPLE SOLVING LOCAL PROBLEMS The Eagle Ridge Institute Area Prevention Resource Center (APRC) is one of the 17 resource centers in the State of Oklahoma, funded by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services. The mission of APRC is to increase the number of individuals, families and communities in Oklahoma County choosing a drug-free lifestyle. APRC INITIATIVES AND GOALS Individuals, communities, and municipalities accomplish the following initiatives by working toward specific goals. INITIATIVE 1: Underage Drinking Prevention: Environmental Strategies Policy and Collaboration Education Community Enforcement. Goals: 1. Enacted and/or expanded public policies that discourage adults from allowing underage drinking to occur in private party settings(aka:Social Host Liability). 2. Expansion of alcohol-free community events/festivals, public parks, or recreational areas, which may include alcohol-free sponsorships, no alcohol sales, or enacted regulations that prevent youth access to alcohol in these settings. 3. Enacted and/or expanded business practices or public policies that reduces youth -focused alcohol advertising and promotion. ![]() INITIATIVE 2: Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Prevention: Prevent the onset and prevent or reduce the problems associated with alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use across the lifespan. Goals: 1. Enacted and/or expanded public safety policies in parks, playgrounds, parking lots, and recreation areas where alcohol, tobacco or other drugs (ATOD) are used. 2. Increased opportunities for alcohol, tobacco, and other drug free community development, including new or expanded park and recreation facilities that are ATOD-free. ![]() INITIATIVE 3: Prevention Capacity and Infrastructure Development: Build community-level capacity and infrastructure to effectively advance alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention goals. GOALS: 1. Increased evidence-based prevention strategy/program/practice training opportunities for key community stakeholders, decision-makers, and volunteers (e.g. training of trainers) 2. Increased youth leadership development, including active engagement of youth in prevention planning, development, and implementation.
